Can Dental labs make or repair denture directly for the public?

Most of the information below is based on Arizona State Law. If you are not in Arizona, you should check with the appropriate authorities in your state to ensure that you and the people that you are dealing with are not breaking the law/s in the state in which you live.

We make new dentures and we can repair dentures - but only under the direction of your dentist.

It's important to understand that with the exception of a few very special situations, only licensed dentists can work in your mouth and diagnose your condition and prescribe the correct work that you need done.

First, let's talk about Repairing, Relining and Other Adjustments to Dentures:

If you're trying to save money by fixing your own dentures or by finding a laboratory to make dentures for you or to repair or reline your dentures, that is NOT a smart way to save money. Having an unqualified lab repair or reline your dentures may save some money when compared to what a dentist might charge, but it can cause serious problems in the future.

There are dental and denture labs in Arizona that do repairs directly for the patient / public. HOWEVER, Arizona State Law mandates that a dental or denture lab can only complete work when directed to do so by a licensed dentist - usually via a written prescription / Rx. This includes making repairs, relines, or other adjustments to dentures. Arizona State Law specifically prohibits dental labs, denture labs or anyone else other than a licensed dentist from working directly in the mouth of the patient.

Think of a dental laboratory as a pharmacy. Dental labs make dental prosthesis under the direction of a licensed dentist. If your current denture is broken or no longer fit well, there may be a good reason why, and not figuring that out could cause other problems and more repairs in the future. If you were having pains in your knee, would you go to the pharmacy to have them tell you what's wrong with your knee? No - you need to see a doctor and maybe have an x-ray taken and then the doctor can properly diagnose the problem with your knee. The pharmacist can then fill the prescription with the correct medication or orthotic appliance to give you proper treatment.

In Arizona, there are a few denturists that work directly with the denture patients. Arizona law is changing and is now recognizing some individuals that have graduated from specific accredited schools as denturists. For specific information about denturists contact the Arizona Dental Board.

Back to dental and denture labs:
While there are many dental labs and dentures labs that are adjusting and repairing dentures in direct violation of Arizona State Law, we will not condone or promote unlawful acts no matter how commonplace they are. Because of our decision to not promote illegal dental activities we cannot direct you to any lab that might be willing to work on your dentures, but rather, we strongly suggest that you see a licensed dentist.

Additionally, we're unable to advise you as to the applicable law/s in the other 49 states, but we strongly recommend
that you become informed about the laws in your state, AND you stay in compliance with all of those laws. It will not be worth saving a few dollars if you end up getting a subpoena from your state to testify in a trail if the state wants to prosecute a lab.

Now, let's talk about New Dentures and Replacement Dentures:
We can provide new dentures through your dentist. We cannot work with you directly. However, we have a proprietary system that allows us to fabricate incredibly nice looking and perfect-fitting replacement dentures in much less time than other labs. You don't need to go to the dentist 3 - 4 or more times to get a new 'replacement denture'.
